'The 40th annual List of Words to be Banished from the Queen's English for Misuse, Overuse and Uselessness' has been released by Lake Superior State University.

This year's group includes:

  • Bae
  • Polar vortex
  • Hack
  • Skill set
  • Swag
  • Foodie
  • Curate/curated
  • Friend-raising
  • Cray-cray
  • Enhanced interrogation
  • Takeaway
  • and the suffix "-Nation," usually used to make words like "Saban-Nation" and "Packer-Nation."

The list is based on submissions received throughout 2014 from members of the public. It joins an archive of more than 800 entries created in 1976.

I totally agree with killing the word "Bae" for good but then again, I'm not 17 anymore. It's short for the word "baby" or "babe," both of which are four letter words! Why does it need to be shortened?

Other words I'd add to the list of words to be banished are: "YOLO" (You Only Live Once), "twerk", and "hipster."

Feel free to leave any words you feel need to be banished in the comment box below!
