Former Alabama running back Kerry Goode shared the heartbreaking news that he has been diagnosed with ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, on Facebook.

More commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. It eventually leads to a person's inability to control muscle movement in their body.

Goode, who starred at Alabama from 1983-87, posted this powerful message about how his perspective on life has changed since learning about the diagnosis.

Goode's former teammate at Alabama and good friend Kevin Turner was diagnosed with ALS in 2010 and has since started a foundation to bring attention to the disease.

Everyone at Tide 99.1 sends their thoughts and prayers to Goode as he battles this disease.
