Kacey Musgraves may get her boots back soon. On Tuesday morning (Jan. 5), the singer shared news that someone had broken into her car and stolen a pair of cowboy boots. Police arrested a man who tried to return them to the store later that day.

Darnell Cunningham was arrested and booked into jail on Wednesday, according to the Tennessean. He’s charged with theft of property, after allegedly breaking Musgraves’ passenger windows on her car and taking two pairs of recently purchased cowboy boots, valued at $900.

WKRN-TV reports that the 30-year-old Cunningham tried to return the boots with the receipt to Lucchese Boots in Nashville later on Tuesday. The manager recognized the boots as those he sold to the “Biscuits” singer, and noticed her name was on the receipt. When confronted, Cunningham took the boots and ran.

On Twitter, Musgraves responded on Thursday morning (Jan. 7):

It’s not clear when and if Musgraves will get her boots back. Earlier in the week she joked the thief must have expensive tastes and cheap standards, and then said maybe she'd write a song about it. The theft happened while she was at 3rd and Lindsley. Her car was parked nearby.

Her next scheduled show isn’t until Jan. 21 in Dallas. Musgraves’ most recent album is Pageant Material.
