Have the Zika and West Nile viruses hit West Alabama? Possibly.

Sources say that The Alabama Department Of Public Health is currently investigating various reports of both viruses being contracted in Alabama. In addition, one Zika case has already been confirmed in Pelham.

Fortunately, there haven't been any cases reported yet in Tuscaloosa. However, people are still on their guard with talk of West Nile and Zika possibly infecting West Alabama residents.

The GOOD news is, even if you are bitten by a mosquito carrying one of those viruses, chances are that you won't experience any of the symptoms. Experts say that West Nile only affects about 1 in 5 who have been bitten by a mosquito that carries the disease. However, only 1 in 150 will develop a serious illness that may result in death. Also, those who do experience Zika-like symptoms are unlikely to require hospitalization, so the odds are in your favor.

But if you still find yourself worrying about getting infected by a mosquito, it might be a good idea to pack some Deet Mosquito repellent to fight them little suckers off!

And of course, if you think you've been infected, contact a Health Professional immediately.
