One of the most meaningful things I do each year is run the St. Jude Memphis Half Marathon for the kids of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

The race that was scheduled for December 7, 2013 was unfortunately cancelled due to the winter storm that engulfed the entire Southeastern United States. For the first time in 4 years, I missed racing through the streets of Memphis and most importantly through the campus of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital where us runners get high fives from parents, patients and doctors. One of the most fulfilling feelings I've ever had.

On December 6th of this year, I will again set out on a journey with thousands of other runners and St. Jude supporters to conquer the busy streets of the largest city in Tennessee. Together we'll fight the weather, leg cramps and find inner strength to make it through our chosen 13.1 or 26.2 miles. Most importantly we'll help raise money for St. Jude to fight childhood cancer.

Here are a few quick facts about St. Jude you may not know.

  • Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing and food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
  • Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to more than 80 percent since it opened in 1962.
  • Because the majority of St. Jude funding comes from individual contributors, St. Jude has the freedom to focus on what matters most – saving kids regardless of their financial situation.
  • St. Jude has helped increase the survival rates for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) from 4% before opening in 1962 to 94% today.
  • St. Jude has treated children from all 50 states and around the world.
  • On average, St. Jude has more than 67,000 patient visits each year.

I will run as a St. Jude Hero this year so that these amazing stats continue but need your help. Please consider a donation on my behalf.
