In a world that sometimes forces us to be who we are not in the hopes of pleasing the people around us, leave it to Hunter Hayes to release a song that speaks that truth, no matter how much it hurts.

In the new music video for the song “Dear God,” Hayes reveals his personal truth not only through the lyrics of the song, but also in a raw, slightly psychedelic-looking video that showcases Hayes pondering the question: "Am I ever really good enough?"

The song's theme of self-doubt comes straight from Hayes, and is based on some of the things he has experienced in his own life as of late.

“I had written a letter on the plane that was at first 'Dear World' before I realized I was actually writing to God,” Hayes says in a press release about the new song, which came to fruition during a writing session with fellow songwriter Andy Grammer. “When Andy took the series of questions we were making for the chorus and turned the last one into ‘Are you sure that You don’t mess up,’ it hit me really hard.

"I ask that all the time and I don't think I’m not the only one. It’s a valid question and one I truly believe you don’t ask unless you already know that answer, because the opposite would be entirely too scary to live with.”

Of course, it’s this authenticity that has long kept Hayes fans coming back for more. The Louisiana native has long delighted with songs such as “Wanted” and “I Want Crazy” along with the song that blew the top off of his career – “Storm Warning.”

Hayes noted earlier this year that he's working on a forthcoming studio album, to be released later in 2018.
