How I Fixed My iPhone 6 Battery
For over a month, I have been battling a communication crisis. Since downloading Apple's iOS 8.4.1 update, I've experienced battery and usage issues.
The phone would indicate 75% battery life before instantly dropping down to 20%. Sometimes, regardless of battery status, the phone would shut down as soon as I opened the camera app to snap a picture or take a quick video. Each time, I would hunt down a USB cord and plug it in long enough to boot the phone back up.
The inconsistency with my phone was the only consistency about my phone. I went through the same song and dance multiple times EVERY SINGLE DAY.
I hoped iOS 9 would correct the problem but I'm convinced my battery actually started to mock me.
Verizon had no record of other customers experiencing a similar problem (sure...) and calling Apple for help is the same as not calling them. I got no where.
I searched websites, twitter feeds, and Facebook posts looking for other victims in the hopes they were able to find a solution. I think I may have even gotten a little bitter about it:
My efforts to restore my iPhone to it's former glory days were unsuccessful and I was left with a 'scorched earth' situation.
Beginning at 6:00 am yesterday, I began backing up my phone and transferring almost 12,000 pictures from my cloud, accessible from my iPhone, to an external hard drive just to be safe.
Four hours later, I was ready to swipe the device, reset to factory settings and re-install my iCloud settings.
By 1:00 pm, I realized I was the punchline of a bad joke and I would have to do the last thing I wanted to: wipe the phone and set it up as a new one.
Erasing the phone took a few minutes but downloading each individual app and logging into each one is a nightmare that has continued into this morning.
But, the Worst Case Scenario WORKED. My phone is now (so far...) working like it did before the iOS 8.4.1 update.
