When Netflix passes, go to Showtime? If Elizabeth Marvel can’t win the presidency on House of Cards, it appears as if Homeland will give her a shot. The actor has officially been called to play the first female President (elect) for Homeland Season 6, depicting the delicate transition of power.

House of Cards star Marvel will play President-elect Elizabeth Keane, a former junior senator not yet officially inaugurated to the Presidency, but described as “bright, charming, lively and blunt.” The timely news comes just hours from the real world officially nominating its first female Presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton.

An arguably tolerable typecasting, future Homeland President Marvel has maintained a major presence in Netflix’s House of Cards as former United States Solicitor General Heather Dunbar, turned Frank Underwood’s rival for the Democratic nomination.

Elsewhere of Season 6, we know that the move to New York will chronicle the aftermath of a presidential election, particularly the tender transition of power, while showrunner Alex Gansa downplayed the likelihood of any significant terrorism plot. Carrie’s stateside return will also enable her to reconnect with some familiar faces (we’ll quietly ignore the late Nicholas Brody also shooting in NYC), while Rupert Friend’s Peter Quinn will also remain a series regular.

Shooting will begin in August for a January 2017 premiere, but should we start drafting a conspiracy board for the House of Cards and Homeland shared universe?
