A heat advisory for Central Alabama is in effect from 11:00 am this morning until 9:00 pm this evening.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham is predicting temperatures to be in the mid 90's and a heat index between 105-109 degrees.

A heat advisory means there is an elevated risk of heat stress and heat related illness such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Precautionary actions to avoid the heat are advised and include rescheduling strenuous activities to early morning or evening, wearing light weight and loose fitting clothing and hydrating.

If you must work outdoor, take frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone over come by heat should be moved to a cool location and if a heat stroke is suspected, call 911.

Also, remember your pets and neighbors!
