Google Celebrates Sally Ride, The First American Woman in Space
Sally Ride traveled into space on June 18th 1983. She was the first American woman to do so. She would have been 64 today and the folks at Google highlights her on their home page with 5 different Google Doodles.
Sally Ride worked for NASA as a physicist and also mentored children through the years. She wanted our youth to realize they too could work in the science and technology field.
Today's guest blog post comes from Tam O’Shaughnessy - She tells us more about Sally’s life, her flight aboard the space shuttle Challenger, and her passion for helping kids stay excited about science and technology.
Sally died almost three years ago on July 23, 2012, from pancreatic cancer.
