Former Crimson Tide standouts and current members of the Atlanta Falcons Julio Jones, Javier Arenas, and Mike Johnson will play in a new stadium in 2017.

The Georgia World Congress Center Authority and Atlanta Falcons worked toward an agreement for a new retractable roof stadium to be built on the Georgia World Congress Center campus. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new field took place on May 19th of this year.

The Falcons began playing in the Georgia Dome in 1992. By the time the new stadium is completed, the Dome will be 25 years old which appears to be the average age of retirement of other NFL domed stadiums.

A study they commissioned estimated that renovation costs to bring the Dome to current NFL standards and to continue to meet the needs of the Georgia World Congress Center would be nearly $900 million. Therefore, it was determined that a new building would be constructed on Authority property.

The Falcons new field will be just south of the Georgia Dome.
