Last week's flash flooding wreaked havoc on Tuscaloosa and Northport, my home included.

I'd received a picture of the water reaching some pallets from Benessa, my forewoman heading up the renovations at our house. The previous day's rain had made the walkway a mud pit and was under threat.

Within fifteen minutes, I received a second text from her informing me the situation had grown more critical.

By the time I arrived, this was the scene that greeted me:

After Benessa waded across the water to kindly bring me my boots, we loaded up and headed to Lowe's to purchase as many sandbags as we could while the water continued to rise.

When we returned from purchasing our sandbags, neighbors and friends appeared out of no where and helped us stack the bags. We had enough bags left over to stack some at their houses too.  They'll never know how much I appreciate their efforts to help us secure our home.

We're still picking up trash and we lost both of our trash cans. Sadly, Greedy Greta lost her latest clutch of eggs in this years flood but Fabio is working very hard to help her replace them.
