Our backyard has come to life over the last few days with Fireflies. That is always the sure "fire" sign to me that Summer is here. I love sitting on the deck and watching them in the woods and when I see one make its way into our yard, I try to catch it for Brody. He asked me "why do they fire?" last night and I really had no idea. This morning I went to firefly.org and learned a little. Did you know that fireflies talk to each other with their light, their eggs even glow and they produce "Cold Light"? From firefly.org:

Firefly lights are the most efficient lights in the world—100% of the energy is emitted as light. Compare that to an incandescent bulb, which emits 10% of its energy as light and the rest as heat, or a fluorescent bulb, which emits 90% of its energy as light. Because it produces no heat, scientists refer to firefly lights as “cold lights.”

Check out more cool facts and even learn the best way to catch Fireflies here.

Tonight I will be able to explain to Brody a little better and maybe catch more than one!
