Today marks the beginning of fall, and that means there are plenty of outdoor festivals, community events, and trunk-or-treats. We've got a look at what's happening in West Alabama for autumn!

The Moundville Native American Festival will he held October 7-10 at  The University of Alabama’s Moundville Archaeological Park, performers, artists, craftspeople and tradition bearers entertain and educate visitors about the rich culture and heritage that makes Southeastern Indians unique.

The University of Alabama will celebrate Homecoming the week of October 5th, with festivities continuing throughout the week. This year's homecoming game will pit UA against another SEC school, The University of Arkansas, and the theme is "Forever Crimson: Faithful, Loyal, Firm, and True."

The Northport Police Department begins a new tradition this year. They'll host a Fall Festival and Community Trunk-or-Treat Monday, October 12. The festival will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in front of Northport City Hall, and the community is invited to attend this free event.

The 44th annual Kentuck Festival of the Arts will take place October 17 and October 18 at Northport's Kentuck Park. The festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, and features over 270 folk, contemporary and visual artists and craftspeople showcasing their work.

Find a retro costume and head to the Back to the 80's party Wednesday, October 21 at the Tuscaloosa River Market! This all-ages party features live music, dancing, and an 80's costume contest--all to mark the infamous date Marty & Doc traveled to in Back to the Future!

The Children's Hands-On Museum's 10th annual Halloween Spooktacular and Monster Mash Ball is Thursday, October 22, at CHOM in downtown Tuscaloosa. Kids and adults are asked to dress up for the party--CHOM says, "Your costume is your admission--and attendees will enjoy carnival games, a fortune teller, and music from DJ Chuckie at the Monster Mash Ball.

Lake Lurleen State Park will transform into "Cape Fear" Saturday, October 31. Celebrate Halloween at Lake Lurleen with hayrides, trick-or-treating, and (for the brave) 'haunted' camping specials.

Tannehill State Park hosts a Halloween Festival Saturday, October 31; the Halloween event features park-sponsored programs during the afternoon and traditional Halloween candy "trick or treat" stops at more than 200 campsites during the evening. Park events include moonwalks, face painting, balloon animals, a bungee jump, along with a train rides for a small additional charge. A special tradition is the festival’s annual Halloween Festival T-shirt. Campground site decorations and lights are extensive, creative and surreal.

The 2015 Bama Zombie Dash will be held the morning of Saturday, October 31, at Griffin Farms Pumpkin Patch in West Blocton. Runners attempt to complete this terrifyingly fun 5K while avoiding attacks from the zombie horde--and participants can choose to run the Bama Zombie Dash as a runner or a "walker;" that's right, you can be a zombie for a day!
