Saturday was Groundhog Day, and the animal of the hour was PUNXSUTAWNEY PHIL. Up on Gobbler's Knob in Pennsylvania, old Phil did NOT see his shadow. That means an early spring for us. Believe it or not, this is only the 15th time in 116 YEARS that he didn't see his his shadow.  Unfortunately, Phil's prognostication is only accurate about 39% of the time. To me It's a great excuse to watch the Bill Murray movie. I walked outside Saturday and didn't see my shadow...until I walked from under the carport. I guess it's time to sharpen the lawn mower blades and pruning sheers.

Interesting notes:

  1. Groundhogs have life spans of about 10 years.
  2. The actual first day of spring this year is March 20th
