In 1965, Dolly Parton hadn't yet adopted the elaborate wigs she proudly sports today, but her hair was still 10 feet tall and perhaps bulletproof. The famous singer is beautiful now, but at age 19 she was more of a natural beauty who relied less on makeup.

According to our records, Parton's hair began to truly take its current shape in the late '70s. She didn't release her debut solo album until two years after this 'Then' photo was taken. Soon following, she'd be as well-known for her image as for her unique style and tone. While plenty has changed in the nearly 50 years since, the daughter of a tobacco farmer still has one of the sweetest smiles in Nashville.
