Yesterday, I managed to capture a pretty amazing moment when someone jumped into a traffic nightmare that left an emergency vehicle unable to go through the McFarland/69 intersection in Northport.

The flashing lights and screeching sirens on the fire truck meant business, but no matter how many times or how hard the driver laid down on the horn, the cars surrounding the truck seemed a little unsure of what to do or where to turn (remember: move to the right). That intersection stays pretty busy so it's understandable that folks were kind of frozen.

When I saw the fire rescue truck was trapped, I grabbed my camera to document the chaotic scene unfolding when I realized someone in a white truck had blown into the middle of the traffic fray and jumped out to direct cars through the intersection and free the trapped rescue vehicle. Once first responders were successfully on their way to their emergency, he walked back to his truck, hopped in and drove off.

I'm not sure the video does the gentleman's actions justice. I'm still in awe of how efficiently he handled the entire intersection at great risk to himself. I'm not sure of his profession, but he looked official.

If you know the gentleman in the white truck would you let him know he's acquired some new fans? I'm sure the family and friends of the individual in need of rescue appreciate his help.
