It was much more than just Tuscaloosa that was glued to the action Saturday night as Deontay Wilder challenged Bermane Stiverne for the WBC Heavyweight Championship belt. The viewer numbers released are impressive.

The title fight from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas crushed anything Showtime featured last year. As a matter of fact, the 'Bronze Bomber's' successful bid to become the first American champ since 2006 was the most watched on the channel since 2012. Overall, the fourth most watched since 2004. Deontay's big night drew an average of 1.24 million viewers and a peak of 1.36 viewers.

The 12 round decision was without a doubt a thrilling spectacle to watch. Considering the number of people who saw it, somebody is becoming much more than a local star.
