‘Deadwood’ Star Confirms Completed Movie Script as ‘Stunning’

Deadwood Movie Script Finished W Earl Brown

Deadwood revival updates have been few and far between these days, beyond star Ian McShane’s occasional insistence that creator David Milch was hard at work. At the very least, McShane’s latest claims prove to be true, as another series alum reveals they’ve read the completed movie script, calling it “f–ing thrilling and f–ing heartbreaking.”

Even as Milch is reportedly busy with another HBO series these days, Ian McShane’s claim that the former showrunner delivered a complete Deadwood movie script to HBO may prove accurate after all. According to McShane’s onscreen right-hand man W. Earl Brown, the script is indeed finished, and “stunning” at that:

Prior to McShane’s comments, HBO boss Casey Bloys claimed not to have seen any scripts for David Milch’s long-gestating Deadwood revival. Other stars like Kim Dickens previously testified to lunchtime snippets with her former Deadwood boss, wherein he’d read from the “stacks” of scripts for a potential revival.

Of course, it’d still be up to Milch to gather the prolific cast (sadly without Ralph Richeson), which in three seasons included Brown, Dickens, McShane, Justified lead Timothy Olyphant, Jessica Jones alum Robin Weigert, Breaking Bad star Anna Gunn, Paula Malcolmson, Molly Parker, and many more. Deadwood ran from 2004 to 2006, showcasing the rise of Deadwood, South Dakota from frontier gold prospecting camp to fully-annexed territory.

We’ll see if HBO actually moves forward on the script, but how long is too long to revisit Deadwood?
