Formerly known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day originated after the Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died during the war.

By the 20th century Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died while in the military service. Family members of our fallen military men and women will visit gravesides with flowers on Monday.

One good thing about county music is that there has never been a shortage of tributes and musical salutes to our military. This Memorial Day weekend we'll hear the sounds of format staples like David Ball's 'Riding with Private Malone', Trace Adkin's 'Arlington', Toby Keith's 'American Soldier' and many more.

One new song that found its way across my desk this week is from a guy I had the chance to hang out with one time a few years back, David Bradley. Originally from Sunderland in Northern England, David understands the struggles of a nation's military and appreciates their sacrifice for our freedoms.

Visit his website or follow him on Facebook & Twitter!

Here for your listening pleasure is David Bradley and his song 'Get A Hero Home'.
