The confetti has been cleared and the dust has settled following one of the greatest championship games of all time. After it was all said and done, Villanova won the title and Michael Chilcutt outlasted our station staff and listeners to take down the 2016 Bracket Challenge.

None of the near-200 entries correctly picked the Wildcats, but the Eutaw resident had three of the final four teams right, including the championship matchup. Chilcutt had a bigger rooting interest in the final game than most people in West Alabama, and that's because his brother played under Dean Smith at North Carolina.

Pete Chilcutt played for the Tar Heels from 1986-1991 after graduating from Tuscaloosa Academy and Dean Smith even attended his wedding after graduation.

"Let me first state that I bleed Bama Crimson Red," Michael Chilcutt said after winning. "I'm also a part of the UNC family because my brother played for Dean Smith. We were both raised in Eutaw. I respect Villanova and their tournament tradition, but I always find a way to put Carolina in the final four mix."

Even though North Carolina lost on a buzzer beater, Chilcutt hung onto his two-point lead and won a $200 VISA gift card.

"Being a basketball fan I couldn't have asked for a better match up. I was on the edge of my seat the entire night. It was heartbreaking to have it end that way but what a final 10 seconds or so!"

Thanks to everyone that participated this year. We hope you join us again in 2017.
