Good news, T-Town! Comcast is bringing the fastest internet service available for residential and business customers.

The new technology uses the same wiring that most customers already have in their homes and businesses, which means that you'll likely only need a new modem to upgrade.

With gigabit service, you'll be able to download your favorite media in the blink of an eye--or even less time! Gigabit internet service means you'll be able to download a HD movie in just FIVE SECONDS or a music album in TWO SECONDS.

Here's more from an official press release:

Comcast today announced plans to begin offering gigabit Internet service to residential and business customers in Tuscaloosa later in 2017.

The company will deliver the super-fast speeds with DOCSIS 3.1 technology, which uses the existing wiring that most people already have in their homes and offices.  As a result, it has the potential to reach more customers even faster and allows for broad deployment across communities.  To enjoy the service, all customers will need to do is install a new DOCSIS 3.1 compatible cable modem that is capable of delivering gigabit speeds.

“Between today’s exciting news, and the upcoming grand opening of our new Xfinity Customer Retail Center in Tuscaloosa, our strong investment in Alabama continues,” said Comcast Regional SVP Doug Guthrie.  “The launch of gigabit service puts Tuscaloosa squarely on the map as a city able to offer a premier technology experience to its residents and businesses.”

Comcast is currently selling DOCSIS 3.1 residential and business services in Atlanta, Nashville, Chicago and Detroit.
