I made a rare find over the weekend.  A cassette tape of the radio broadcast of the 1992 #2 Alabama vs. #1 Miami USF&G Sugar Bowl (National Championship Game) in New Orleans. I bought it off a guy for $3.

The broadcast is from the Alabama Sports Network- from Host Communications (now owned by Learfield Sports). Eli Gold, Doug Layton, Jerry Duncan, Tom Stipe, Tom Roberts and Burt Bank were part of the radio broadcast.

This was Coach Stallings only Championship and Alabama's first since 1979. This was Eli Golds 4th season as the Voice of the Crimson Tide.

Jay Barker enjoyed his first full year as a starting QB for Alabama. George Teague ran down Lamar Thomas to strip the ball stopping what certainly was a TD drive for Miami. Sugar Bowl Captains:Prince Wimbley, George Wilson, Derrick Oden and George Teague . Derrick Lassic was chosen as the MVP.

This game aired Jan 1, 1993 - I graduated high school that May! Roll Tide! Alabama beat Miami 34-13.

I can't wait to hear it. I just have to find a cassette player! When I track down the cassette player, I'll share some audio.
