In the midst of rumors that the Civil Wars are no longer a duo, Joy Williams has announced that she is heading out on a solo venture and recording a new album.

Williams used her Facebook account to announce the news. "Started recording a solo album yesterday," she writes. "Butterflies. Bittersweet. Mostly Sweet." The words were accompanied by a 16-second preview of what's to come for the singer. The short clip posted to her over 40,000 followers featured the vocals fans have come to know and love through the Civil Wars' recordings.

Williams also gave a little preview of what it's like being in the studio. She posted this photo of herself behind a mic and in front of a laptop, preparing to record.

Another photo shows that she's been writing with Matt Morris. Morris has written for a string of successful artists including Justin Timberlake, Cher, Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson.

This is Williams' first solo album since 2005 when she released 'Genesis,' a Christian pop album. The Civil Wars released a new EP this month, but their future is uncertain. They cancelled tour dates back in 2012 and rumors have been circulating ever since.
