The 7th annual Lake Tuscaloosa-North River Waterfest and Lake Clean Up, a two-day educational and cleanup event, is scheduled for April 10th & 11th at Lake Tuscaloosa.

The fest will include an education expo on Friday, April 10th at the Phelps Activity Center for area fourth-grade students. The lake cleanup event is open to the public on Saturday, April 11 at the Highway 43 boat landing.

Residents of the City of Tuscaloosa and surrounding areas receive their drinking water from Lake Tuscaloosa, which is fed by the North River watershed. Waterfest provides an opportunity for local students and citizens to learn more about protecting and conserving the local water supply.

At last year’s Clean Our Lake Day, 86 volunteers removed a total of 5,670 pounds of trash from the lake. Over the past six years, this brings the total to over 75,000 pounds of trash cleaned out by over 800 volunteers.

The Friday festival will start at 9:30 a.m. and end at 1:30 p.m. with booths providing education on North River and Tuscaloosa watershed. Local experts will present and demonstrate how and why Lake Tuscaloosa and North River watershed are important to the community.

On Saturday, the cleanup begins at 8 a.m. and lasts until 1 p.m. Participants will be able to register at the Highway 43 Binion Creek boat landing. At this location there will be raffle prizes, t-shirts, hotdogs and drinks available to registered participants.
