You read that headline correctly. I'm about to tell y'all how to make the most delicious homemade ice cream you can find in the great state of Alabama! My family has been making Grapico ice cream for as long as I can remember. Every year, we'd all get together at my Granny and Paw-Paw's house in Gadsden. My Paw-Paw, my dad, and my uncles would spend all day tending to the barbeque and the smoker while my Granny, my mom, and my aunts would be in the kitchen making the most delicious food known to man. We'd eat until we were painfully stuffed, and when the sun set all of us kids would catch lightning bugs and shoot bottle rockets.

Grapico ice cream was always on the menu. My grandparents had one of those loud ice cream makers, and it would be put out on the back porch. It was all my sisters, cousins, and I could do not to break in to that bad boy and gouge on the sweet grape goodness inside. When I think about the 4th of July, I always think about my Granny's house and Grapico ice cream.

Y'all may not have tried Grapico ice cream, and I am here to remedy that. It's so simple to make, and it tastes AMAZING. It's like a grape float (a.k.a Purple Cow), but all blended together. All you need to make this decadent dessert: 4 12 ounce cans of Grapico and two 14 ounce cans of sweetened condensed milk. You whisk them together and put the liquid into your ice cream maker. Turn the thing on and let it run until the ice cream is semi-solid. That's it--seriously!

I've listed the recipe below. You can replace the Grapico with any soda, really. Try making it with Sunkist for an ice cream that tastes like a creamsicle. You could get creative and try peach soda or another fun flavor!
