Carrie Underwood is quite the triple threat. She's not only a talented singer and songwriter, but she also has acting on her resume, with her biggest acting role yet to come.

This December, Underwood will star in a live production of 'The Sound of Music' and even be featured on the accompanying soundtrack.

'The Sound of Music' soundtrack featuring the six-time Grammy Award winner will be released by Sony Masterworks on Dec. 3. Two days later, NBC will show the three-hour live production of the classic musical, which will also star Underwood as Maria von Trapp.

Underwood is the production's leading lady, but the cast also has other big names. Five time Tony Award winner and two time Grammy Award winner Audra McDonald ('Private Practice') will play Mother Abbess. Stephen Moyer ('True Blood') will play Capt. Georg von Trapp. Tony Award winners Christian Borle ('Smash') and Laura Benanti ('Go On') will also have performances in the production.

'The Sound of Music - Music From the NBC Television Event' soundtrack will feature studio recordings from all of the Rodgers and Hammerstein numbers, including 'The Sound of Music,' 'Do-Re-Mi,' 'My Favorite Things' and 'Sixteen Going on Seventeen.' And that's just to name a few favorites from the musical!

'The Sound of Music' will air Dec. 5 on NBC at 8PM ET.
