Can ‘Sugar’ Ants Kill Baby Birds?

On April 27th, I asked the question "How Long Does it Take for Bird Eggs to Hatch?" . This weekend I found out. It's about 3 to 4 weeks.This weekend, I found 4 baby birds in the nest under our carport. The little mama bird is on a non stop mission to keep them fed. I noticed her gone Sunday afternoon so I stepped up and snapped a pic of the baby birds.

I noticed some 'sugar' ants all over the nest when I took the pictures. Some where on the birds. Can this kill them? Can I spray anything around them to keep the ants off?They need to be strong when they leave the nest to help survive two stray cats that have taken residence at my house.
