Brett Young has accomplished a major feat no other country act has met in 2017. The singer's hit single "In Case You Didn't Know" is the only country song released this year to reach RIAA-platinum certification.

Co-written with Tyler Reeve, Kyle Schlienger and Trent Tomlinson, "In Case You Didn't Know" is also Young's first song to reach one million sales. The country singer joins Ed Sheeran, Future, the Chainsmokers and Katy Perry as artists to achieve this certification this year.

The song itself was actually inspired by one of the writers’ moms. According to the Taste of Country RISERS star, the lyrics came from a story Tomlinson shared about his childhood.

“He said when he was a kid, every time he would leave the house, his mom would stop him on his way out the door, and she’d say, ‘Trent, in case you didn’t know, I love you,'” he explains. “I thought, ‘Wow, that’s such an everyday expression, obvious thing, that I think is overlooked,’ because the fact of the matter is, women really need to hear ‘I love you,’ and men are really bad at remembering to say ‘I love you.’ And also, there’s that element of, nobody ever wants to lose a loved one — I know that’s dark — and then wish that they had said ‘I love you’ more.”

“In Case You Didn’t Know” is the follow-up single to Young's previous No. 1 hit, “Sleep Without You,” both off his self-titled album released earlier this year. “In Case You Didn’t Know” continues the success of his debut single, as it recently earned a CMT Music Awards nomination for 2017 Breakthrough Video of the Year.
