Brad Paisley is not only one of country music's biggest stars, he's also one of the genre's most accomplished guitar players. He reminded fans of that fact when he performed an impressive acoustic cover of the Eric Clapton classic "Layla" during a recent radio appearance.

Paisley dropped by the Bobby Bones Show as part of Joy Week, which helped the popular program celebrate its second anniversary. Stars including Garth Brooks, Luke Bryan, Keith Urban, Dierks Bentley, Randy Houser, Jake Owen, Sam Hunt and more helped out by performing live on the air to help spread the message of joy to the show's listeners.

"We just want people to be nicer to each other," Bones says (quote via All Access). "It's that simple." Joy Week also helped support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital via sales of T-shirts bearing the slogan, "Pimpin' Joy."

"Layla" first appeared on the Derek and the Dominos album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs in 1970, but Paisley drew from Clapton's acoustic version from his 1992 MTV Unplugged performance for his arrangement, which turns the classic rock track into a bluesier groove. Paisley takes an impromptu instrumental break after the second chorus, asking rhetorically, "What's the third verse, anybody know?" before heading back into the chorus — although it should be noted, the reason he didn't remember the third verse is because he actually skipped the song's second verse and sang the third verse in its place.

Nevertheless, the informal performance provided an interesting contrast to Paisley's own music, and demonstrated a different side to both his singing and playing that obviously impressed the on-air talent on the show, as well as their listeners. Listen to Paisley's performance above.
