Blake Shelton earned three CMA Award nominations this year, which is exactly one-third of what his superstar wife, Miranda Lambert, received. But while the songstress could certainly boast about her nine nods, her husband says she couldn't be more humble.

"I mean, my God! I don't know, is it even possible to get nine?" Shelton says to People magazine.

The Oklahoma native says his wife was so unaffected by the day, she didn't bother to sit around and wait for the news.

"She got up early and went some place out of the city to ride horses, and on her way, she found out about the nominations and called me," he recalls. "I said, 'What did I get?' And she told me two or three things. Then I said, 'Well, what did you get?' and she said, 'Oh, nine.'

"I said, 'That's got to be a record!'" Shelton continues. "She said, 'Oh, well … I tied my record from last year.' She says it halfway embarrassed. If it was anybody else, she probably wouldn't even talk about it, but with me she's pretty excited about it."

Both husband and wife are both nominated in two categories, Single of the Year (Lambert's 'Automatic' and Shelton's 'Mine Would Be You') and the night's highest honor, Entertainer of the Year, but Shelton is pulling for Lambert to come out the winner.

"It's just unbelievable," he boasts. "She's this unique individual that's not like anybody else, and it's cool to see her be recognized for that."

Lambert has been nominated for 34 CMA Awards and has won seven, while Shelton has been nominated for 23 and won eight.

The 48th annual CMA Awards will air live from Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 8 PM ET on ABC.
