University of Alabama Athletics Director Bill Battle shocked many of us yesterday with news of multiple myeloma, a form of cancer.  He announced yesterday that he will be taking an "indefinite leave of absence" as he undergoes stem cell replacement therapy.

"That doesn't mean I will stop working, I will be in touch by email every day. I will be in direct contact with our senior administrators on a daily basis, and I expect to be back in the office later this summer. My doctors say that I will be able to keep working for years, for as long as a I want to."

Battle says his condition is not life threatening and he told the Tuscaloosa News that he is "in a good partial remission" since the discovery of cancer back in March.

Bill Battle has been a part of UA for many years, he played football for Bear Bryant and has served as UA's AD for the past 3 years and we wish him many, many more!
