A Guard was stabbed earlier today by an inmate at the Bibb Correctional Facility in Brent, according to The Alabama Department of Corrections.

The inmate, Wendell Tyrell Jones, 36, was charged with stabbing the guard. The guard was taken to a nearby hospital and is said to be in stable condition.

A Department Of Corrections press release says that the stabbing happened during lunch in the prison's dining hall. Jones attacked the guard from behind. The guard was able to defend himself until help arrived. Fortunately, no other guards were injured in the attack. Prison Officials report that they did recover a makeshift weapon that was used in the altercation. However, the motive which led to the stabbing still remains unclear.

Jones is currently serving a 20-year sentence for a 2011 domestic violence conviction out of Marengo County.
