Another Christmas Vacation has come and gone. I spent a lot of time with family and friends. We laughed at old stories and took a bunch of pictures that probably will remain on a phone or SD card for months. (thank goodness) We ate a lot and watched all the kids play with their new toys for a min or two. I was basically lazy as I could be until our washing machine went on the blink! It happened Christmas Eve.

I fancy myself a bit of a handy man so I quickly tore into the machine to work my magic. My stomach hurt with the thought of having to buy a new washer right at Christmas time. My wife cheered me on but nothing I did would revive the old contraption.

I had to drag a black sack  to my mother-n-laws the following Friday evening. They thought I was bringing in Santa's toy sack...the disappointment shown on their faces when they opened the sack to find my dirty underwear.

We made it back to Tuscaloosa Sunday before New Years Eve. I decided to try my luck  with the washer one more time.  I discovered a part on the motor called the Start Capacitor from a Google search.

I figured 'what the heck'. On New Years Eve, a local appliance parts store was opened til noon. I bought a new start capacitor for $16.19 and put the washer all back together and it's ALIVE! I did it!

Not only did I have a great vacation with family and friends, I proved my handy man skills! I hope it's a sign of a good year. (my mother-n-law hopes so too)
