I had the pleasure of eating lunch yesterday at Side by Side. This new restaurant is in the newly opened Embassy Suites in downtown Tuscaloosa. As soon as I was greeted at the door, I realized this was going to be remarkable.

I was meeting a friend for lunch. I arrived first and was greeted at the door and ushered to my table. A glass of ice cold water and my menu quickly followed. When my friend arrived, our server explained a few items on the lunch menu (which is pleasantly simple).

We both ordered the 'Side by Side' hamburger. It is Next Level.

For dessert, I ordered the coconut cake. Made by Side by Side's own pastry chef. (He bakes all bread used in the restaurant in house by the way)

I have eaten some good cake in my life. My mother-n-law can rock out a caramel cake. Celebrations bakery takes the key lime cake to the moon. The coconut cake at Side by Side must be the best coconut cake EVER. To use words like "moist" and "delicious" and other overused culinary descriptions would not be fair. I wasn't prepared for it. I paused with the first bite in amazement. Then the second bite and the third.  I wanted to lick the coconut puree off the plate when I finished but refrained.

Our server told me the cake would make me have great dreams. I concur.

I'll have a cup of coffee with the masterpiece next time. Next time, as in like today.
