In a battle of two of the nation’s top pitchers, it was Florida that quieted the Alabama bats, as the Gators shut out the Crimson Tide, 5-0, in the Women’s College World Series championship series opener.
Alabama was behind early, but a pair of big home runs by Peyton Grantham and Jadyn Spencer ultimately powered the Crimson Tide to a 6-2 victory over Oklahoma in the opening game of the 2014 Women’s College World Series.
After battling back to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh, Alabama and Nebraska battled back and forth for five more innings as a solo home run by Peyton Grantham in the 12th eventually gave the Crimson Tide a walk-off 6-5 victory over Nebraska in the opening game of the Tuscaloosa Super Regional.
Alabama will be one of just 16 Division-I programs playing softball next weekend, as the Crimson Tide defeated South Alabama, 3-0, in Sunday’s Tuscaloosa Regional Championship to advance to the program’s NCAA-record 10th straight Super Regional.
Alabama softball will enter the 2014 NCAA Softball Tournament as the No. 2 overall seed, hosting South Alabama, USC Upstate and SIU Edwardsville in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Three days of games will start on Friday, May 16.
