Are The Crappie Biting?
This past Sunday morning I spent day break on the Alabama River in Wilcox County with two fishing poles and about 50 minnows in a bucket and my brother-n-law, Jonathan. We were Crappie fishing. We put in below the Lock and watched the sun come up as we turned off the river into Beaver Creek. The trolling motor took us about 2 miles up the creek and we didn't even get a nibble! Nothing at all! But it didn't matter. The feeling of being on the water for the first time this year was really all we were worried about. We saw about 10 wood ducks, two deer, and some turtles.
We even flushed out about 5 turkeys from their roost and watched them fly directly over us. The wind was barely blowing but it was a cool breeze and the sound of a grand daddy woodpecker echoed the entire time. It was most peaceful.
The picture above was taken with my phone, looking back towards the Alabama River at about 7:30 Sunday Morning. The picture below was taken a little later headed deeper into Beaver Creek.
On our way out at about 9:30 (so we could meet our wives and kids at church) I snapped this pic of a natural spring waterfall cutting through the banks of the Alabama River. Are the Crappie Biting? Who Cares.
