Two rising country females have joined together for an emotional cover of John Mayer's country single, "In the Blood."

April Kry and Taste of Country RISERS artist Kalie Shorr teamed up for the "In the Blood" cover. In a video filmed at Westlight Studios in Franklin, Tenn., the two singers alternate singing the verses of Mayer's song. Standing at two microphones and assisted by an acoustic guitar player, the two women put their own unique spin on the tune.

Mayer's influence transcends genre lines, and the pop singer included "In the Blood" on his latest album, The Search for Everything.

The ballad explores a broken relationship between a son and his parents. “I can feel the love I want / I can feel the love I need / But it’s never gonna come the way I am / Could I change it if I wanted / Can I rise above the flood / Will it wash out in the water or is it always in the blood,” the chorus says.

While "In the Blood" marks Mayer's first official release to country radio, he's been collaborating with country acts for a while now. He enlisted the help of Taylor Swift on his 2010 song "Half of My Heart," while that same year Keith Urban joined him for a full episode of CMT's Crossroads.

Shorr is an artist ToC had been watching for several years before naming her one of our 2017 RISERS. Take a look at her exclusive RISERS performance of her original song "Nothin' New" below, along with an exclusive photo shoot and interview about her SiriusXM breakthrough single, "Fight Like a Girl."
