In November, Amazon opened a brick-and-mortar store in Seattle to test the viability of an actual bookstore.  The WSJ reports that Amazon plans to open as many as 400 stores nationwide to cut down on the cost of returns. An estimated 38% of all purchases made online are returned.

The Amazon book store will determine tomes for sale using website sales and rating data to optimize stock. Books will appear 'face out' with customer reviews underneath.

The price of in-store books will mirror those available online.
