Alabama freshman pitcher Alexis Osorio has been named one of three finalists for the NFCA Freshman of the Year award, along with Oklahoma pitcher Paige Parker and Oregon infielder Jenna Lilley.

The winner of the award will be announced on May 27 in Oklahoma City, Okla., just prior to the start of the Women’s College World Series. Tennessee catcher Annie Aldrete and Auburn infielder Kasey Cooper shared the inaugural Freshman of the Year award last season.

Osorio is the SEC Freshman of the Year, the eighth in Alabama history and the first since Kayla Braud in 2010. She was also named First Team All-South Region, First Team All-SEC and was named to the SEC All-Freshman team. She owns 11 wins this season over ranked opponents, including two decisive victories last weekend against 20th ranked Washington in the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional round. In two starts over the Huskies, she allowed just one unearned run on two hits with 14 strikeouts over 12.0 innings pitched.

The Riverside, Calif., native leads the Alabama pitching staff with 19 wins this season, posting 1.59 ERA, including an SEC-leading 1.60 ERA in conference play. She was the only pitcher to surpass 100 strikeouts in conference play, 67 of which were swinging, while holding SEC opponents to a .186 batting average.
