Massive road repairs continue as Tuscaloosa County Public Works department continues with its efforts to restore Albert Sanders Road located off Martin Road Spur. What first appeared to be a small portion of the road washing away after the recent April flooding, has evolved into a monster.

'It's alive. It's never stopped moving,' said Mike Henderson, Engineer Coordinator for the project, while numerous pieces of heavy equipment worked around us. 'If you stood there long enough you'd see pebbles rolling down the hill.'

Before the slide, the road measured 22' across but today only 3' feet of the roadway remains. Traffic in and out of the dead end street is limited to one lane which has been pushed over several feet to accommodate cars and trucks. My stomach actually flipped as I drove past the work area yesterday. My car was just inches from the barricades blocking the 50+ foot drop.

Thankfully, the County is on top of their game and Mr. Henderson has been extremely nice to answer my endless questions and allow me to sneak in a few pictures.

I'm not sure what the complete project will entail, but I know repairs include the addition of several drains. Either way, I'm sure I speak for all of my Albert Sanders Road neighbors when I say 'thank you' for your hard work and a special mention for Penny Browning who does a great job of keeping the County's residents informed through Facebook.
