The No. 6-ranked Alabama gymnastics team is wasting little time leaping into 2019, opening its season at home on Friday with a quad meet that features Southeast Missouri State, Northern Illinois and Temple.

“It’s really exciting to start the season at home,” UA head coach Dana Duckworth said. “It’s so awesome to be at home in front of our amazing fans on opening weekend.”

The meet will get underway at 7:30 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum and fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 7:15 p.m. for introductions. Tickets are available online at RollTide.com as well as through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum.

This season marks the first time since 2015 that Alabama has started the season with a home meet and the first time that Alabama has hosted a quad meet since February 27, 1998 when the Tide welcomed Arizona State, UMass and N.C. State.

Infrequent as they have been in the past, quad meets are likely to become more common, both in Tuscaloosa and around the nation, with the NCAA’s postseason format going from six teams in a session to four starting this season. With that change in mind, Alabama opens the 2019 season with a pair of quad meets.
