It doesn’t seem like it’s been five years but then, it seems like a lifetime ago. It may even feel like it happened in a dream, or rather, a nightmare.

The weather events of April 25-28, 2011 have now become known as the 'Super Outbreak.' Alabama and Mississippi were the most severely affected, but Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia also experienced devastating tornadoes over the four days.

Here are a few astonishing stats about the 'Super Outbreak':

  • 363 tornadoes were confirmed by the National Weather Service
  • 348 people were killed
  • Tornadoes occurred on each day of the outbreak
  • April 27th was the most active day with a record of 219 tornadoes touching down

In the days and months flowing the tornado, thousands of rescue workers converged on Tuscaloosa. These generous people dug through mountains of rubble looking for survivors, manned aid stations, delivered supplies, and did anything they could to help people they most likely, didn't know.

Here are a few photos that take us into the aftermath of the biggest natural disaster to hit Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
