Husband-and-wife Americana duo Adrian + Meredith are premiering their brand-new track “Birthday Cakes” exclusively for readers of The Boot.

“Birthday Cakes” was written while Adrian + Meredith were on their first tour; she'd quit her job in Michigan, and they they trekked around the West Coast.

"Not sure if it was the fact that it was our first tour together, or that Meredith was still coming down from leaving her job, or if the shows were really that magical, but we didn't have one bad show on the run,” Adrian Krygowski remembers. “On Highway 199 in Redwood National Park, we stopped at the appropriately-named 'Tour-Thru Tree' attraction and played a few songs while our van was in the tree. It was there that the first few chords and melody of "Birthday Cakes" came to be, and subtly was in the back of our heads for the remainder of the tour."

Blending traditional folk rhythms with rock guitars and a modern aesthetic, the Nashville-based Adrian + Meredith make for an unlikely musical marriage. Guitarist Krygowski first met his future wife Meredith, who plays fiddle, sings and clogs in the band, while performing in Washington, D.C. The two began performing together back in 2012 and will soon release their debut record, More Than a Little.

No release date has yet been set for More Than a Little, but in the meantime, fans can keep up with Adrian + Meredith on their official website.
