Widespread influenza activity has been reported in West Alabama and throughout the state, and the number of reported cases of the flu is on the rise.

According to the latest Influenza Surveillance Map from the Alabama Department of Public Health, almost every county has reported significant flu activity.

My five-year-old was diagnosed with type A flu yesterday, and her pediatrician started her on a prescription medication called Tamiflu. When we went to the pharmacy to get the medication, we were told it would be a long wait. I asked why and was told that they'd been seeing flu patients all day long.

It seems as if the flu is everywhere, so take precautions. Get your flu shot; wash your hands, and try to stay healthy this Christmas.
