Saturday, it's the first ever Encore 5K Run/Walk to benefit Phase I of the restoration of the historic Greensboro Opera House.

There is so much history around West Alabama, like the Greensboro Opera House. This structure dates back to 1903. In it's heyday, the central place in town for all things entertainment, like theater productions, concerts, and dances. Plus, lectures and even town meetings would be held here. The building also featured stores and offices.

The Greensboro Opera House has since gone deserted and mostly forgotten... until now. A group of citizens have gathered, dreaming of restoring this building. That's where this race comes in, a way to help raise funds to make it possible to complete Phase I of the project.
