First, I'll tell you what Lemonade Day is. LemonadeDay.org describes it:  " In 2007, founder Michael Holthouse had a vision to empower today’s youth to become tomorrow’s entrepreneurs through helping them start, own and operate their very own business…a lemonade stand."

"Lemonade Day is a strategic 14-step process that walks youth from a dream to a business plan, while teaching them the same principles required to start any big company."

I've done some research and my 7 year old will be taking part in this event in Tuscaloosa on June 18th. This program has helped over 1 million kids across America since 2007, with partners like Google for Entrepreneurs. Registration starts this week. More on that later.

I own a business. It's been said that entrepreneurs are the only people willing to work 80 hours a week to avoid working 40. True. Owning and operating a small business isn't easy but very rewarding.

I have learned so much since we opened my business over a year ago. There are things you learn in business that you didn't know you didn't know. I love the idea of Lemonade Day because it's an opportunity to lay a foundation for our children.

Here are 5 reasons why my 7 year old Brody will participate and I am excited to help.

  1.  He will learn about Money. How to make his money work for him and not just work for money.
  2. He will learn self reliance and confidence. He will be on his on in a few short years.
  3. He will learn how to treat people. Customer service goes a long way. Without them, there's no business.
  4. He will learn to create a plan and follow it. Change and tweak but move forward.
  5. He will learn to give back. Its important to me to Save - Spend - Give.

Check out this video below and consider registering your child for LemonadeDay.org.  Your child will receive a backpack with a workbook with the 14 step process. Keep an eye ut for open registration on the Tuscaloosa Lemonade Day Facebook page.
