Master Chef and director of food and beverage at Hotel Capstone, Peter Schmidt, stopped by The 95.3 The Bear Studio to talk about the West Alabama Food and Wine Festival happening this Thursday at Cypress Inn. Get ready for some awesome food from 14 of the best restaurants in our area!

It was a pleasure talking to Mr. Schmidt. He grew up in rural Germany and developed a love for food and cooking at an early age. He recounted memories from his childhood "off Mic" as we prepared for his radio interview. Schmidt revealed that as a child, his family "never bought meat". They raised all of it. He watched his mother prepare meals with fresh ingredients his entire life and that translated into his love of food.

He graduated with a Master's Degree in Culinary Arts and has worked in the food/restaurant industry in exotic places all over the world. From Ciro to Hawaii, he brings his master skills to the Hotel Capstone here in Tuscaloosa! If you haven't been to lunch at Hotel Capstone lately....wait no more.

Mr. Schmidt headed up the inaugural West Alabama Food and Wine Festival in 2013. The event was hosted at Hotel Capstone and featured the best dishes from many local restaurants and wine from all over the US. Last years event raised over $8,000 for the West Alabama Chapter of The American Red Cross. That's awesome.

This Thursday the 2nd Annual Food and Wine Festival will be held at the Pavilion at Cypress Inn. You will enjoy fine food from 14 area restaurants and bakeries with over 60 wines to sample. Druid City Brewing will provide craft beer for the event as well.

Tickets are available here. Visit the West Alabama Food and Wine Festive on Facebook.
