A Friday lunchtime accident in Tuscaloosa involving 2 tractor trailers on I-20/59 eastbound causes major afternoon backups on the interstate and nearby roads.

Tuscaloosa EMA reports the accident happened near mile marker 76, which puts it close to the Skyland Boulevard exit. Officials also note that northbound/eastbound vehicles are being rerouted. The southbound/westbound direction is open, but moving slowly.

Nearby roads are feeling the strain of the accident, as Skyland Boulevard is bumper to bumper from I-359 past McFarland Boulevard. Delays are also found on Greensboro Avenue feeding into Skyland Boulevard. Try to avoid this area until traffic flow returns to normal on I-20/59.

Video posted by WVUA shows the near standstill of eastbound traffic on I-20/59.

UPDATE (2:53PM): all lanes of traffic are open on I-20/59.
